He ran into her at the local grocery store and she took his breath away. She had dark brown eyes with hair to match and rosy cheeks. He had accidentally backed his cart into hers and suddenly they were both laughing.
Looking in her cart, she had fresh vegetables, diet cola and baked chicken. She was checking out his purchases at the same time – frozen pizza, beer, cheese, Oreos and a box of Captain Crunch. Their eyes met. She couldn’t have looked away if she had wanted to.
Every year on their anniversary, they had dinner with those same ingredients.
Nan, didn’t we meet in a grocery store — you buying Folgers coffee, and I was stocking it at the time. And I remembered carrying that can of coffee up to the checkout counter just for you. It still took me three days to call you for our first date. — and I still love the smell of fresh brewed Folgers coffee.
Dear Mike, Thanks for the memory – and I’ve always bought Folgers coffee since we’ve been married. Watch out if I ever buy another brand! ha ha Nan
Very sweet story – a lovely tradition to keep up.
I keep thinking maybe next time I’m shopping I should crash my trolley into a few others to see if I can get a date 🙂
Dear Draliman, Hey – it’s worth a try! Thanks for stopping by and reading. Have a wonderful week! Nan 🙂
That’s a big anniversary dinner their sharing. Lovely and tender – a heartwarming tale than made me smile.
Thanks Sarah Ann, I’m just a “Pollyanna” at heart. Kind of sad, but there’s too much wickedness in the world for me right now. Vive la France. Nan 🙂
Fun story! Hey, I eat like a slob, why didn’t I run into her?
You must have been in the wrong aisle. So sorry Perry, maybe next time. Thanks for stopping by. Nan 🙂
I was thinking the same thing as Sarah Ann! Delightful little tale of love.
Thank you Alicia. I’m silly at too romantic, but – hey – that’s me! Thanks! Nan 🙂
Awwww….
Randy
Dear Randy, Thank you too! Nan 🙂
Oh if only it was always that easy! Lovely story.
Dear Margaret, My husband and I kind of re-met this way. He was stacking Folgers coffee and my mother made me go back into the store because she had forgotten to pick it up in her cart – and low and behold, this guy on his knees restocking coffee. Thanks for stopping by, Nan 🙂
Dear Nan,
This would make a classic Hallmark channel movie. Delightful.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Thanks Rochelle, and I’m sure a lot of people have met each other in similar ways. Yea, I guess this would make a Hallmark Movie – they have so many of them for romance. Nan 🙂
Touching & sweet story, Nan 🙂
They were meant to be together! What a delightful way to celebrate and relive the first-meeting & love at first sight experience!
Dear Anita, Thanks for reading my story! I’m a romantic at heart – Maybe even corny to some, but it’s me! Thanks Nan 🙂
So, it was love at first bite? I guess the way to a man’s heart truly is through his stomach.
He got off lucky. That’s a lot cheaper anniversary dinner than I have to buy for Connie. 🙂
And rightly so Russell, after all you did marry above your stature! Tell her hi for us – miss you guys! Nan 🙂
a happy ending… i love happy ending. it happens in real life more than people realize. 🙂
Dear Plaridel, Thank you for stopping by and yes, when people roll their eyes at a happy ending – half of them are happy! Nan 🙂
Dear Nan
You gave us a love story AND a happy ending, what more could anyone ask for. Well done I enjoyed it.
Dee
Dear Dee, Thank you for commenting and stopping by! Nan 🙂
Great human interest story, Nan. Really sweet. I’ve heard that some men deliberately knock into carts in stores just to make contact. I personally never had that happen to me when I was single. Maybe I shopped at the wrong stores. Well done. 🙂 — Suzanne
Dear Suzanne, Thanks for reading my story and stopping by! Have a good week! Nan 🙂
A sweet story, and nicely told.
Cheers
KT
Dear Wildbilbo, Thanks for reading my story! Have a great week! Nan 🙂
What a lovely, happy story. That they kept the memory of their first meeting alive by their anniversry meal is just so romantic.
Lovely! And the title is excellent .
Oh, this is really sweet, Nan. There’s something to be said for traditions and this one is so romantic, Captain Crunch and all. Love it!
I like this! So romantic… 🙂
