Scout’s Honor

Scout's HonorBy, Nan Claire Falkner

Three years after what seemed a never ending biblical drought; the spring rains deluged the forest and brought the life giving nourishment that the parched land craved. So much, that the river rose over its’ banks and downstream it began to flood.

As the den leader cleared the levy, he noticed all the trash near the bank. “Okay you guys, this is your project. Clean this embankment. We have a permit to burn the trash up on the hill. Your reward will be your environmental merit badge.”

“Sir,” said Sammy “What happened here?”

“There was a party for the EPA.”

  1. Typical – a drought and then a flood 🙂

I’m guessing “EPA” is an environmental agency, akin to our (the UK’s) Defra (Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs)? If so, very good – the last people one should need to clean up after!

    • Dear Plaridel, No, the EPA is a government agency and lately, we’ve been getting reports of a lot of them being not what they are supposed to be. They are flawed and spending too much money. Just a joke. Thanks for stopping by! Nan 🙂

    • Hi AnElephantCant! The EPA is the Environmental Protection Agency in the United States. Of late, we have been having a lot of employees come forward and tell about the overspending and misdeeds of some government agencies which is a lot more common than we thought. Thanks for stopping by and hope you have a wonderful holiday season! Nan 🙂

    • Hi Marie Gail, Thanks for dropping by! In the last year we have heard about so much waste and it just makes you wonder – “WHAT ARE THEY THINKING?” Oh well. Hope you have a wonderful holiday season! Nan

    • Dear Suzanne, Thank you for your comments and all you have to do is watch the news to have proof that the government is incompetent – too many chiefs and not enough Indians! Enjoy the holidays! Nan 🙂

    • Dear Margaret, Well, the government has outgrown it’s britches as usual. There are way too many departments to be effective and too many employees take advantage of expense accounts. Hope you enjoy the Holidays! Nan 🙂

  2. Dear Nan: that was a good one. We all know the EPA is about as popular these days as a toothache. I remember when the department was created with lofty goals and barely enough of a budget to do anything. I always enjoy your writing. You like to “pinch” . Lucy
